We treat all types of magnetic tapes that suffer from SSS (Sticky-Shed Syndrome). This syndrome is linked to moisture absorption (hydrolysis) by the support. The symptoms are generally a sticky tape that hinders playback by a tape recorder and which results in irregular scrolling and sometimes breakage of the tape. We master the "baking" of the tapes in our laboratory oven which is particularly stable in temperature. This treatment allows to restore a readable tape for a few weeks, during which time it is strongly recommended to carry out the transfer (digitization) in order to store the document in digital audio form.
