Acetate Disc Cleaning
Acetate Disc Cleaning
The solution adapted to direct burning discs! Acetate discs (Pyral, Direct Burning, etc.) have specific properties that make them extremely fragile. These discs are in fact composed of a metal core and a particular material (which is not vinyl despite its appearance!) that is chemically unstable. As it is an old medium, the disc exudes acids appearing in the form of white greasy dust, sometimes a layer covering the entire surface in the most serious cases. Similarly, cracks, flaking or delamination of the medium can occur more or less quickly depending on the manufacturer and storage conditions.
Legacy Acetate's special treatment is a manual cleaning process that utilizes our specialized maintenance solutions. Our treatment reduces the presence of acids that destroy the media, effectively removes dust from the disc, and cleans it. Legacy Acetate improves sound quality while stabilizing the media for extended archival life.
We strongly recommend that you digitize this type of disc immediately, as it is impossible to know in advance how long the integrity of such a medium will be maintained. Since these are often unique recordings, this is the only way to ensure the preservation of the recorded audio documents.
Please note : Cleaning a disc does not repair physical damage to the disc (scratches, impacts, damaged grooves, wear, etc.) but it does reduce its effects.
